Why am I returning to Huánuco, Perú?

Why am I returning to Huánuco, Perú? This August I am leading the Global Outreach team from Journey Church to the Casa del Buen Trato Hovde in Huánuco, Perú for the second consecutive year. Last year was our exploratory trip with an incredible group of people in which we were deciding if this was a good fit for our church as a Global Outreach partner in South America. We learned a great deal about the organizations involved and how Peru’s government functioned when it came to human right’s issues. We served the staff and residents by helping to build a roof over their laundry area and paint their living quarters. We enjoyed meals with the residents at the shelter, danced, played volleyball, went on hikes and just thoroughly enjoyed our time immersed in their culture. What I did not anticipate was for them to serve us as well. The staff cooked us 3 meals daily, cleaned and even gave us homemade gifts. It was a beautiful experience that really changed my perspective on Global Outreach. This trip is impactful and I am so excited to share it with another group of individuals this August, including my husband!

"Shaving" trees is no easy task!

“Shaving trees” is no easy task! These trees supported the roof over the laundry area.

I am trying something new here. I decided to translate my post above into Spanish below. I have some friends that speak Spanish and I am also working on my translation skills for our upcoming trip.

Gracias.
